College soccer in the U.S. is a pathway where student-athletes compete at a high level while earning a college degree, and it’s a common next step for players coming out of club or academy systems. To get recruited, athletes typically play for club teams, attend showcases, create highlight videos, and communicate with college coaches. College programs are divided into three main levels: Division I, Division II, and Division III. Division I offers the highest level of competition, larger schools, and athletic scholarships. Division II is still very competitive but often balances athletics and academics differently, with partial scholarships available. Division III focuses more on academics and does not offer athletic scholarships, though the level of play can still be strong. Each path offers different opportunities depending on a player’s goals.
